God never quits on us or abandon us; it is we who choose to resist or have faith. It is we who choose...is Jesus able to perform any mighty deed or not? "He could not work many miracles there, except curing some sickness" The Gospel reminds us that Christ is revealed in our "native place" and in our next door neighbors.

Ezekiel and Jesus:
Prophets opposed. (Ezek 2:2-5 and Mk 6:1-6).
Jesus encountered resistance. rejection, and even death at the hands of the people. A prophet's ministry does not depend on a response, or lack of response, from the people. It is measured by his faithfulness towards the mission. This mission rests solely on God's authority. There is a messenger formula: "thus says the Lord". The lack of messenger formula indicates that the prophet is God Himself. The all too common failure to recognize a prophet until it is too late, is the same malady that afflicts people in Jesus' hometown. Their "rebellion" in fact a "lack of faith".

“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them: for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

“Who do you say that I am?” from Mark 8:27-35 is the Catechetical theme for this year.

We are very excited about all the hustle and bustle and excitement that comes with a new CCD year and we look forward to all the opportunities to share God’s love and teachings with our parish family.
In the months to come we will be busily tying the church liturgy calendar into the CCD calendar, especially in grades preschool -5 so that when your child hears the Gospel on Sunday they have a basic understanding of the theme so that they can more fully understand the readings and homily. We take this path because the Eucharist, the breaking of the Word, and Sacraments are the central meaning of our Catholic faith. We will still use teaching materials from our text books as well.
Occasional activities during afternoon and evening class time will also include Mass, Stations of the Cross, student reconciliation, The Way of the Cross (Stations of the Cross), speakers, and other activities depending on the teacher. We will also be busy preparing second grade and eleventh grade students and families for the sacraments of first Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation through teachings in class, parents meetings, retreats and the consecrating of these sacraments during Mass.
How exciting for us all, their parish family, to watch their progress throughout the year and see them bloom into a new and wonderful phase in their faith journeys. We ask that you as their parish family pray for them to be blessed with knowledge and touched by the sacraments that our Lord instituted.
We look forward to the upcoming year and pray that God blesses the Catechists, students, and parents abundantly with His love.
